Ideal Weight Calculator

Calculation

Free ideal weight calculator: get your ideal weight with the Devine and Robinson formulas plus the healthy BMI weight range — all in your browser.

Enter your height to see your ideal weight.

Which formulas are used?

This free calculator reports the two most common ideal weight formulas. Devine gives 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches - 60) for men and 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches - 60) for women. Robinson gives 52 + 1.9 × (...) for men and 49 + 1.7 × (...) for women. It also shows the healthy range for a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9.

How to use

  • Select your sex and enter your height in centimeters.
  • Optional: enter your current weight to compare it with the healthy range.
  • Read the Devine and Robinson ideal weight values.
  • See the healthy BMI weight range and a color hint for your position in it.

FAQ

  • Which ideal weight should I trust? The formulas were built for height-based estimates on adult populations, so small differences between them are normal. The healthy BMI range is often the better practical target because it acknowledges a span of healthy weights.
  • Why do men and women get different values? On average women have less lean mass and more essential body fat at the same height, so both formulas start from a lower base for women (45.5-49 kg instead of 50-52 kg) and the Robinson slope is smaller.
  • What is the healthy BMI range? A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight by the WHO. The calculator converts that BMI range to a weight range in kilograms based on your height.

Different formulas, different answers

Devine, Robinson and Miller each make different assumptions about body build, so the 'ideal' number varies by a few kilos between them. The variation is normal — the tool shows a range so you do not fixate on one magic digit.

Think range, not verdict

Body composition means two people of the same height and weight can have very different health pictures. Use the result as a rough reference zone alongside the BMI tool, and let a clinician apply judgement for anything medically meaningful.
